What To Wear for Engagement Pictures

My friend Chelsi is getting engagement pictures done in a couple weeks and she wanted some ideas on what to wear for both her and him. She kind of gave me free range as far as what she liked to wear. She did say she was loving the Maxi skirt look lately and thought maybe that would be a fun option. She also is doing the colors coral, mint, and grey for her wedding colors. I thought it would be fun to maybe associate some of those colors...even though I hard a hard time finding mint pants online but they do have some at Forever21 stores.
I also wanted give a wide variety of options from dressy to casual, trendy to basics.

I think it's important to go all out for pictures...the more layers the better...but it's also important to stay true to your style and comfort. You don't want to be so overdone it looks costumey...but now is the chance to go beyond the normal.
( i hope you read the descriptions of the outfits and how to pair them so the whole look makes sense :)These are of course just inspiration boards and you can take the concept and run with it however you like!
Congrats Chelsi! I hope this helps you get ready for your pictures!

For Her:

Maxi Dress
I love the look of the maxi dress..it's dressy yet has an ease to it. Dress it up by pairing a white button up shirt, tucked in, belted, and fun gladiator sandals. Jewelry and loose waves.
button up: Gap, skirt: F21, belt: F21, shoes: Madewell

You could also go for the color blocking option.
A fun cobalt blue skirt, white shirt, bright solid colored cardigan, belted, and gladiators
shirt: Gap, skirt: Old Navy, cardigan: JCrew, shoes: Madewell

Another fun option is a printed maxi, such a stripes or a floral print. Pair with a plain button up blouse or chambray top KNOTTED, belt and gladiators, or flat sandals.

skirt: Target, shirt: F21, shoes: Madewell, belt: F21

Dresses
They are a great way to dress up any picture but also look comfortable and effortless. Spring is great because you can pair fun floral dresses with boots or wedges or sandals!
dress: F21, jacket: F21, wedges: DV, sandals: Old Navy

dress: Gap, boots: Lucky Brand, wedges: DV, scarf: Topshop

button up: Gap, skirt: Target, shoes: Sychelles, scarf: Topshop

coral and mint with bright colored sandals
cardigan: JCrew, dress: F21, shoes: Sychelles

this dress is a statement piece and doesn't really need much else with it. I love the collar because it automatically accessorizes you!
dress: ASOS, gladiators: Madewell

White Pants
Are perfect for spring. Pair them with a chambray top, brown boots and you will look put together, trendy, but it's also a classic look, a look you wont look back on and wonder what you were thinking
Flair it up with a striped cardigan, or bright colored blouse and printed coat

chambray: F21, pants: Gap, boots: Lucky Brand, belt: F21

blouse: F21, polka dot jacket: Target, pants: Gap, shoes: Sychelles

Colored Pants
They can look classy if done right. They are a bit of a statement themselves so go fairly neutral on top...or be brave and do a floral or patterned top.

chambray: F21, pants: Express, scarf: Topshop, belt: F21, flats: Old Navy

Chambray: Old Navy, cardigan: Old Navy, pants: JCrew, shoes: Old Navy, belt: F21

entire outfit: Gap

Denim but still dressy
Here are a few options to dress up your denim- Fun printed blouse and bright cardigan or a sheer blouse in a neutral tone with boots or fun heels or wedges. They are classic looks that will photograph well and can coordinate together very easily.

cardigan: Target, blouse: Old Navy, jean: Old Navy, shoes: F21

blouse: H&M, jean: Old Navy, belt: F21, boots: Target

...................................

For Him

I kind of stuck with a dressy but casual theme. I think it's really important for the guy to be comfortable....that way he will be more relaxed :) and also I think you want them to look sharp and put together...but you still want them to look themselves and not totally overdressed or trendy...so when you look back on these pictures in 20 years...you wont say "what was I thinking".
I also stuck with neutrals and blues. Blue looks great on pretty much every skin tone, it photographs well, and it is an easy compliment to whatever you decide to wear.
sweater: JCrew, Shirt, pants, shoes: H&M ( i would add the links for H&M but you can not purchase online...they do have all of these items in the store though...they are new and I was at H&M the other day and saw them)

striped shirt, pants, shoes: H&M, cowl neck sweater: JCrew

sweatshirt shirt, pants, shoes: H&M, gingham button up: JCrew

striped shirt, pants, shoes: H&M, cardigan: JCrew

button up: H&M, pants: Gap, sweatshirt shirt: JCrew, boots: F21

gingham: JCrew, pants: Gap, shoes: H&M, jacket: Forever21

sweater: JCrew, shirt, pants, shoes: H&M
